Get In the Spirit

Hi all,

Whoever put that inappropriate search on my blog, you should be ashamed of yourself. We don’t write things like that. My brother told me about a group that targets people in a sick contest to see how much taunting will make them commit suicide. The group is called anonymous and no one has caught them yet. This is an age of irresponsible and cruel cyber-bullying, so don’t be a hater.

I would like to announce the sad ending of Actorplace.com. I was having problems accessing my page and then I received a response to my inquiry that said the site would be no more. Hence, the link is gone from my blog. I am sad to see them go.

A Christmas Carol just opened this past weekend to a modest audience. I hope to see more people come to see the show. There are a lot of performances left. My friend and her sweetheart came to the opening night and they really liked it. She especially liked my auburn wig. We went to dinner afterwards and it was really great to do something social. I have been really busy. My classes are finished and now it’s on to student teaching. I wish I didn’t have to do this, but I wouldn’t be the only pro in this situation. (Yes, I am a pro. I’ve been paid.)

Back to the show. I was feeling philosophical so I wanted to share some of my deep thoughts about the story. A Christmas Carol is still an extremely popular story because the world is still much like the world that Charles Dickens knew. Yes, we have nukes and Ipods, but people are still starving and living in squalid conditions. And there are still people like Mr. Scrooge who have put the pursuit of wealth above their humanity. There are also people who don’t believe in Christmas (as in the joy of the season and goodwill.) I’m Catholic, so for me Christmas is a religious occasion. I remember reading the notes for Sting’s Winter Album and he said that the holiday season for him, and others, was a time of ambiguity. That means not having feelings either way. Christmas makes me feel warm and fuzzy like Scrooge’s nephew, Fred. Therefore, it makes me sad to see people who either have no real feelings or hate the season because they lost someone special. We still need what Charles Dickens wrote about: goodwill to others, social justice, and a merry Fezziwig Christmas party. I have always thought the idea of three spirits changing a man’s heart in one night was pretty awesome. In one night, Scrooge goes from bah humbug to Christmas joy. It is interesting to note that on this miraculous night Scrooge faces the past he wants to forget, sees the present he refuses to notice, and confronts the future he will not face. He also doesn’t get any sleep that night. So have a merry holiday season whether you celebrate Christmas, Hannukah, Winter Solstice, or any other religious holiday I may have left out.
